2016 SWPA (Southwestern Psychological Association) Conference: Successful Collaboration

The Southwestern Psychological Association Meeting was held in Dallas, Texas April 8th-10th, 2016.  Over 1,400 psychology enthusiasts were in attendance, and the Invited Speakers were fantastic!  Dr. Martie Haselton, Dr. Robert Kurzban, Dr. David Buss, Dr. Brian Collisson and others spoke on topics as varied as the evolution of teaching, self-control and sense of effort, and sexual morality.

The Psi Beta Collin College Chapter, Psi Chi University of Central Arkansas Chapter & North Lake College Psi Beta Chapter collaborated on a panel at the Psi Beta/Psi Chi Chapter Exchange Session. This popular panel has helped facilitate opportunities for students and advisors across the southwest to connect.

Students participated in the panel by discussing honor society chapter problems and ways to solve them.  The panel presented possible issues of concern for chapter success and then the audience broke into groups and presented scenarios with conflict resolution.  The session was very insightful with new bonds being formed between chapters.

Students from Blinn College also participated in SWPA, presenting their original research on Grit, Academic Success, and Social Media Use and Grit and Wellness Behaviors. Psi Beta Members Lindi Lawson and Magesty Ismyana and Inductees Alan Rivera, Jacob Howell, and Omar Saripeda presented posters summarizing their year-long research projects. These posters were well-received by faculty and attendees at the conference.
