Announcing the Psi Beta Awards and Competitions for 2020!

Despite the chaos we are experiencing, Psi Beta’s individual and chapter awards and competitions are going on as usual. Our awards and competitions are summarized below. Don’t miss out! Go to Awards on the Psi Beta website for drill down for more information.

COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARDS – Psi Beta offers a variety of award competitions. If you or your chapter have engaged in any community service projects during the 2019-20 academic year, consider entering the chapter and individual member Community Service Award competition.

COLLEGE LIFE AWARD – Has your chapter conducted an event that has enriched the life of your college? If so, consider entering the College Life Award competition.

BUILDING BONDS AWARD – There also is the Building Bonds Award that recognizes an activity in which a Psi Beta chapter has collaborated with a Psi Chi chapter.

FACULTY ADVISOR AWARD – Has your chapter’s faculty advisor done an exemplary job for your chapter? If so, consider nominating her or him for the Faculty Advisor Award.

CHAPTER EXCELLENCE AWARD – If your chapter has been especially active, it may qualify for Chapter Excellence recognition. Note that all chapters meeting the chapter excellence criteria can qualify for the Chapter Excellence Award and shine a positive spotlight on their chapter!

RESEARCH PAPER AWARDS – Finally, there is the Student Research Paper competition, which, for some winners, can result in a scholarship to attend and participate in the APA’s annual convention in Washington, DC this August. (Note: students who have completed a bachelor’s degree are not eligible for this award.)

ANNE ANASTASI APA CONFERENCE TRAVEL SCHOLARSHIP – This award covers the costs of three students to attend and participate in the APA conference in Washington DC this August. Scholarships may be offered to authors of the top two student research papers and the winner of the individual community service competition.

McGRAW-HILL REGIONAL CONFERENCE AWARDS – This award is presented to one faculty advisor and one Psi Beta student at each of the regional psychology conferences. Normally, conference attendance is required to qualify for this award, but we are waiving that requirement this year. May 15th is the deadline to nominate an advisor and a student for this award. (Note to Eastern region members – the advisor award has been determined already.)

APPLICATION DEADLINES – Except for the Student Research Paper competition, all applications are due by June 1st. The Student Research Paper competition’s deadline is May 15th.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE – Go to Awards on the Psi Beta website for drill down for more information.

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE – Psi Beta’s competitions are open to all Psi Beta student members who are currently attending a community college. Psi Beta students who have transferred to a university are not eligible.
