Exciting Psi Beta Service Activities at CCAC North!

The Community College of Allegheny County, North Campus chapter of Psi Beta sponsored some exciting events over the past school year.

  • Every fall, we hold a breast cancer awareness day called “Get into the Pink.” In addition to fund-raising efforts for Susan G. Komen for the Cure, we invite breast cancer survivors to share their experiences. Last October, we were fortunate to have one of our local TV news anchors, who also happens to be a breast cancer survivor, address a large audience of faculty, staff, and students.
  • In March, we hosted a local expert who discussed depression and suicide. She described symptoms and treatment of depression as well as warning signs and demographics as they apply to suicidal behavior.
  • Our spring induction featured a “Certified Laugh Leader” who spoke on the many benefits of gratitude.

All of these presentations were very well-received and well-attended.

Our chapter also does quite a bit of community service. For example,

  • we co-sponsor the blood drive every semester,
  • we collect holiday cards to benefit children at a local school,
  • we make holiday favors for Meals-on-Wheels recipients, and
  • we support Daffodil Days which benefits the American Cancer Society.

These activities are a great way to introduce students to meaningful service activities, and to support the community in important ways.
