Irvine Valley Chapter Has a Busy Fall!!!

The Irvine Valley Chapter – led by President Ivette Merced and Vice-President Amanda Walker – has been busy this fall. Here is a quick summary!

Meetings – Several psychology instructors gave excellent talks. Professor Cassens gave his outstanding talk on the psychology of cults. Dr. Tucker presented some of her amazing research on appreciation and how it relates to personal happiness. Recently we had a panel of former students – now attending local universities – come back and give tips on preparing for upper division coursework.

Fundraisers – We’ve held several great fundraisers that were combined with social events (e.g., skating and bowling nights).

Research – Our research committee is busy preparing to participate in the Psi Beta National Research Study, and we have several other research projects underway. Many Psi Beta students presented at the college’s first annual student research conference on November 10.

Service – Two Heroic Imagination Teams gave presentations to local high school classes. Our chapter is continuing to support the CONNECT peer-mentoring project this year. We’ve also been participating in an array of other, very special service projects.

Induction– 20 students were inducted at our December 7th induction ceremony. We enjoyed hearing Dr. Larry Cahill from UCI present his research on the brain mechanisms involved in emotional memory.
