National Council Prepares to Celebrate Psi Beta’s 35th Birthday!!!

The year was 1981. Ruth Hubbard Cousins, then Psi Chi’s Executive Director, and Ruth’s daughter, Carol Tracy, founded Psi Beta. Since that year, 40,348 community college students have become lifetime members of Psi Beta! Today there are over 140 Psi Beta chapters carrying out Psi Beta’s mission of increasing psychological literacy by providing students having an interest in psychology with a large array of high impact learning experiences. Active membership in Psi Beta helps students develop leadership skills, engage in meaningful community service activities, participate in undergraduate research, and become active in Psi Beta’s Heroic Imagination Project service-learning program.  Moreover, Psi Beta members are eligible for Psi Beta’s competitions and scholarships. See the Psi Beta website for details http://psibeta.org [1]

Plans are underway to celebrate Psi Beta’s 35th birthday at the annual American Psychological Association conference to be held in Denver this August. Our preliminary plans to develop an honor roll to commemorate Psi Beta’s longest operating and most active chapters, long serving chapter advisors, and former Psi Beta National Presidents.
