Pasco-Hernando State College Chapter Learns How Lowry Park Zoo Applies Psychology

By Jodi Savell, Chapter Advisor

Professor Jodi Savell, Psi Beta Advisor for the Pasco-Hernando State College, North Campus and 6 Psi Beta and Psychology Club students were awarded a travel grant from the College to explore how zookeepers at the Lowry Park Zoo in Tampa in Florida used operant conditioning with the animals.  According to Professor Savell, “we aimed to observe operant conditioning up close and personal.  It is one thing to hear about examples in class and read about the uses from a textbook but seeing how applicable it is firsthand is pretty spectacular.”  A fun and educational learning experience.
