Message from Psi Beta’s National President

Dear colleagues,

I write this message to you quite energized having spent the weekend with numerous Psi Beta advisors and many more students while attending the Western Psychological Association Convention in Reno, Nevada.  It was refreshing to see the excitement in our students and to hear that many of them have been accepted to a variety of prestigious universities.

Through ongoing efforts, Psi Beta strives to provide opportunities for students in research, scholarship, and service learning. This year, after several past successful years of implementing the National Research Project, we partnered with Psi Chi on the International Situations Project.  Many chapters participated once again and I hope that many of you consider participating again in the future.

I am also happy to report that we have launched the first lesson of the Heroic Imagination Project and are in the process of developing additional lessons.  Our partnership with the Heroic Imagination Project is as strong as ever and resulted in several joint presentations at the Terman Teaching Conference and the Western Psychological Association Convention.  Additional presentations will be made at the American Psychological Association Convention in Honolulu, Hawaii along with presentations on other service learning opportunities.  I am excited to report that Dr. Philip G. Zimbardo will be Psi Beta’s Ruth Hubbard Cousins Distinguished Speaker at APA.

The Psi Beta National Council strives to make Psi Beta an organization that provides support to you and students alike in addition to providing numerous learning and research opportunities relevant to both. Psi Beta would not be the excellent organization that it is today without advisors like you, our student leaders, or our student members.

Please do not hesitate to contact the National Council if there is anything we can do to support you or if you have colleagues who are interested in chartering or reactivating a Psi Beta chapter.

Sincerely,

Kris Leppien-Christensen, Ph.D.

President
