Psi Beta and Psychology Club Activities at Quinsigamond Community College, Worcester, MA

This was a year of growth and expansion for the QCC Psi Beta National Honor Society and QCC Psychology Club. We doubled our enrollment in Psi Beta. We had a wonderful group of engaged and ambitious officers, who actively promoted the organizations, both on and off campus. In fact, two of our officers are the past and current Student Trustees to the QCC Board of Trustees, and we have had several members involved in student government, as well as with other student organizations.

  • We hosted seven guest speakers over the course of the academic year, who spoke on topics including neuroimaging, suicide prevention, stereotypes and racism, professional development as a psychologist, forensic psychology and stress management.
  • We participated in the national Psi Beta research project, and are in the process of applying to present at a regional conference regarding our data analysis.
  • After receiving a grant from Psi Beta to collaborate with the UMASS Amherst Psi Chi organization, we traveled to their campus to learn more about the research opportunities available to undergraduate students.
  • We helped to design a t-shirt to represent our organizations, with the assistance of the QCC Marketing department, which our members are wearing proudly.
  • We remain engaged in participating in community events, such as the QCC Day of Service, Out of the Darkness Walk to Prevent Suicide, and the QCC Day of Diversity (organized by several of our officers).
  • Our Yankee Candle fundraiser allowed us to make a donation to the local YWCA.
  • We continue to be present at a variety of QCC events, to promote our organizations and to support the efforts to engage students in the QCC community.
  • Along with several psychology department faculty, we were interviewed by a local radio station.
  • We are building a data base to better track and connect with our membership.
