Psi Beta Chapters Meet at the Southwestern Psychological Association Conference

SWPA held its annual conference in Oklahoma City this year on April 11-14. Students from Psi Beta chapters at Collin College and North Lake College in Texas were able to participate in several sessions with Psi Chi, hear research from keynote speakers, and get together to discuss chapter events. Psi Beta Members Laurel Jackson-Cook (Collin College) and Melynda Austin (North Lake College), participated in two student led panels with Psi Chi members to discuss fundraising strategies and leadership and officer training with their organizations. Psi Beta members from both colleges attended talks by Robert Sternberg, Daniel Schacter, and James Pennebaker.

Psi Beta and Psi Chi students were able to meet and discuss transitions to four-year colleges and the need for better transitions between Psi Beta and Psi Chi. Both Psi Beta chapters also met together to discuss common activities and student interests. Psi Beta Advisors, Enrique Otero and Jennifer O’Loughlin-Brooks, also attended the conference and discussed plans for future activities with their Psi Beta chapters.

SWPA will be held in Ft. Worth next year on April 4-6, 2013. We look forward to seeing more Psi Beta chapters attend next year.
