Psi Beta Chapters Meet at the Southwestern Psychological Association Convention

Psi Beta students from North Lake College, Collin College, South Texas College, and Lone Star College attended the annual convention for the Southwestern Psychological Association (SWPA) in Ft. Worth this April.  Laurel Cook, winner of the Psi Beta Carol Tracy Community Service Award in 2012, participated with Mike Kersten, a 2012 Psi Chi Leadership Award winner, in a talk on leadership and service in organizations.  Students and Psi Beta Advisors also attended a panel discussion on building leadership within organizations, hosted by Psi Chi and Psi Beta.  Laurel Cook and Christian Pena from Collin College participated as discussants on that panel as well.

Psi Beta member Melissa Leon and Psi Beta Advisor Lisa Veliz, from South Texas College,  presented two posters at SWPA detailing the results of their chapter’s data from the Psi Beta National Research Project on environmental factors related to cell phone use in college students. During the convention, several Psi Beta chapters met together to discuss common activities and student interests.  Psi Beta Advisors, Enrique Otero, Lisa Veliz, and Karen Bauchman, also attended the conference and discussed plans for future activities with their Psi Beta chapters.

SWPA will be held in San Antonio, TX next year on April 3-5, 2014.  We look forward to seeing more Psi Beta chapters attend next year.
