Southwestern Region: Keep Calm and Keep Learning about Psychology!

This spring has been extraordinarily different, and even that is understated. Like most of you, during this historic pandemic, I’m staying home and doing my part. We must try to keep calm and keep learning. As your VP for the Southwestern region, I wanted to update all chapters in our region regarding the Southwestern Psychological Association’s Annual Meeting for 2020: SWPA has been officially CANCELLED.

Conference and COVID-19 Update as of April 3, 2020, from the letter published by Perry Fuchs, PhD, SWPA President Due to the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Executive Council has decided to cancel the 2020 Southwestern Psychological Association conference.”

“Canceling the conference does have some financial consequences for the organization. We are aware that some SWPA members are donating their paid registrations to the organization. People who donate their registration fees to the organization will receive a thank you letter that will serve as confirmation for tax related purposes. If you are also willing to help the organization out by donating your registration, just email the treasurer, Thomas Faulkenberry at by April 15th. Your generous support during this unprecedented time is greatly appreciated.”

You can find more information and the complete letter on their website

The 2021 conference at the Hyatt Regency San Antonio Riverwalk hotel, April 9-11. I will continue to relay information as it becomes available concerning the reopening of submissions for new submissions, if interested. Chapters that participated in this year’s National Research Project on interpersonal communication and workplace skills are encouraged to consider submitting their research when submissions reopen. You can find more information about the national research project by following this link. I will also relay any information on the programming for Psi Beta as the conference date approaches. Finally, there are regional award opportunities for those chapters participating at SWPA and presenting research. Please read more about it here.
