The President’s Message

Message from the President
Fall Newsletter, 2009

Thank you for your involvement in Psi Beta.  Our central mission is to promote the professional development of psychology students at two-year colleges.  To this end, we offer several awards to recognize individual students, chapters and advisors for their research, academic, and leadership efforts.  I invite you to visit our website www.psibeta.org to learn about these opportunities and I encourage you to compete for these important recognitions.  While visiting the Psi Beta website, you can also get to know the national council, learn about upcoming events, and shop at the Psi Beta store for logo merchandise, graduation regalia, and chapter supplies.  We are continually working with our development team to offer you a rewarding and easy-to-navigate experience when you visit the website.  Please let us know what you think.

At the national level, we are continuing to collaborate with Psi Chi.  The two national councils had a very productive meeting in Toronto at the APA convention this past August.  We are working towards facilitating the transition of Psi Beta students to their respective Psi Chi chapter once they transfer to the four-year university.  In addition, the 4thannual Synergy conference will be taking place next month.  The Synergy conference is a student oriented conference organized and coordinated by neighboring Psi Beta and Psi Chi chapters.  This year’s event will take place at the State College of Florida.  I would like to personally thank Sheri Chejlyk (Psi Beta’s President-Elect) for her tireless efforts in organizing this year’s event.  In addition to the Synergy conference, the Johnson/Cousins Building Bonds Award was unveiled last year to recognize outstanding collaboration between a Psi Beta and Psi Chi chapter.  I invite your creative efforts to work with the Psi Chi chapter at your local university.

I wish you the best of luck in the upcoming year.  The national council and I are here to make the best of your Psi Beta experience.  Please let us know how we can help.

Fernando Ortiz, Ph.D.
Psi Beta National President
