WPA 2020

The 100th annual convention of the Western Psychological Association will be held in San Francisco, California from Thursday, April 30 to Sunday, May 3, 2020.  Several special events are being planned by the committee with the input of many past presidents.  While all WPA conventions provide students valuable opportunities to participate and be exposed to great scholarship and networking events, this will truly be a unique gathering.

Reservations opened October 1st for accommodations at the Hyatt Regency, San Francisco.

Applications will open soon for students to present their research at the Psi Beta Poster Session.  The application deadline will be Monday, January 13th, and students will be notified of results by January 31st.  Besides allowing time for students to fund and plan their travel, this timing will also allow student authors to be included in the WPA Program and ensure we have space for all presenters.

We will also gather at the convention for the Chapter Exchange.  This popular event is an opportunity to meet people from other chapters and share successes and challenges from the previous year.  Last year attendance was especially strong, and participants shared many ideas about recruitment, service projects, scholarship activities, and outreach opportunities.  You and your students won’t want to miss the Chapter Exchange in San Francisco!

Finally, the Psi Chi-Psi Beta Networking and Mentoring event is returning this year!  Students and advisors will have time to discuss connections between our organizations, ways to facilitate transitions for students from Psi Beta to Psi Chi, and the value of student participation in these honor societies.

The student convention guide on the WPA website is a helpful resource with information about conference spaces, events, and etiquette.

Please join us – and encourage your students to attend the convention and participate in our Psi Beta events!
