Awards Overview and Deadlines


IMPORTANT NOTE: Applications for all awards must be submitted electronically. At the bottom of each detailed award description, you will find a link to the application form.

Psi Beta sponsors six types of awards/scholarships for active chapters, members, and advisors. In partnership with Psi Chi, we also offer a limited number of Building Bonds Collaboration Grants.

ANNE ANASTASI RESEARCH PAPER SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS
Certificates and checks are awarded to primary authors of three outstanding original psychological research papers written in APA style. Cash awards are $600, $400 and $300 for first, second, and third place winners respectively.  Deadline for submission is May 15th. Research paper award winners are automatically entered into the Anasatasi Conference Scholarship Award competition.  Each year – depending on the availability of funds – between one and three students are invited to attend the annual APA conference, present a poster on the winning research paper, and receive his or her cash award. The Anastasi APA Conference Scholarship pays for the winning student’s conference attendance. 

ANN E. GARRETT ROBINSON COLLEGE LIFE AWARD
A plaque is awarded for an innovative, resourceful, and useful chapter project or program that uniquely promotes the quality of two-year college life and advances the discipline of psychology and the mission of Psi Beta. (This is a chapter award, not an individual award.) Deadline for nomination is June 1st.

CAROL TRACY COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD
Certificate and $100 awarded for each of two outstanding community service projects– one student and one chapter. Deadline for nomination is June 1st.

CHAPTER EXCELLENCE AWARD
A recognition “plate”
 is awarded to all chapters meeting or exceeding the chapter excellence standards. The standards reflect Psi Beta’s mission. The plate can be attached to the “perpetual plaque”– available for purchase from the Psi Beta store. Deadline for submitting the application is June 1st.

JOHNSON/COUSINS BUILDING BONDS COLLABORATION AWARD
A plaque, certificates of recognition for participating Psi Beta members, and $100 is awarded to a Psi Beta chapter which, in collaboration with Psi Chi members, have conducted an activity having a significant impact at the local, state, regional, or national level. The collaborative efforts may focus on scholarship, leadership, research, and/or community service. The nominee may be nominated by a chapter officer or by the faculty advisor. Psi Beta also awards a plaque to the participating Psi Chi chapter.
Deadline for nomination is June 1st.

VIRGINIA STAUDT SEXTON FACULTY ADVISOR AWARD
A plaque is awarded to an outstanding Psi Beta faculty advisor. Chapter officers and/or members can nominate their advisor. Deadline for nomination is June 1stNOTE: Some chapters are fortunate to have two or more advisors who work together to oversee an excellent chapter. If that is the case with your chapter, and your members wish to submit a nomination for co-advisors to your chapter, you may do so but please be sure the nomination letter describes how each advisor individually supports your chapter.

PSI BETA / PSI CHI COLLABORATION GRANTS
To encourage collaborative and cooperative activities and projects between Psi Beta and Psi Chi chapters, a Collaborative Grant has been established to help nearby Psi Beta and Psi Chi chapters carry out collaborative events. Grant funding will allow seed money ($500) for collaborating chapter pairs ($250 to the Psi Beta chapter, $250 to the Psi Chi chapter). All applicants for the Collaboration Grant will automatically be entered in the Building Bonds Award Competition. The Collaboration Grant is open to all active Psi Beta chapters and Psi Chi chapters. Chapters are eligible for just one grant per year. Four collaboration grants are being awarded each academic year. Proposals for a Fall project are due June 1. Proposals for a Spring project are due February 15. Project reports (Fall and Spring) are due June 1.
